Police officer files wrongful termination suit against town

When a person is fired from his or her job in Chaska, Minnesota, there can be a lot of negative consequences, not the least of which is a soiled reputation. Those who have been terminated from one job may find it difficult to obtain another one as potential employers will likely take into consideration the firing when making their decision to hire a new employee. This is why it is so important to take action if you feel you have been wrongly terminated from your job.

A police officer who was fired from her job in August 2012 has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the town of Millbury, Massachusetts and names three other defendants in her suit. She claims that she was the victim of a biased investigator who had it out for her since she had filed a complaint against him when he was her teacher in college.

Millbury authorities say the officer was let go after texting excessively while on duty and harassing three residents in the town. The matter went to arbitration in July 2013 where the decision to fire the officer was overturned because the town could not provide proof for their claims. The arbitrator ordered the town to give her back her job and pay for her lost wages.

When the town did not follow the arbitrator’s orders and failed to give her back her former position, the officer filed a lawsuit. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages along with legal fees and benefits.
