Executives file wrongful termination suits

Minnesota residents who apply for and accept jobs should be able to trust that they will be treated properly by their employers. This includes knowing that their civil rights will be fully protected and that their efforts will be appropriately recognized and rewarded. However, there are some times when disputes arise and owners or others at companies fail to do this. Even with at-will employment laws, there can be illegal reasons for firing employees.

Three former employees of a medical device manufacturing company have filed lawsuits alleging that they were all fired illegally. One of the lawsuits, initiated by the man who had been the president of the company, also asserts that illegal financial transactions had taken place. It is indicated that the company’s owner and some relatives used large sums of company funds for personal use. The owner is also accused of tax fraud and other criminal activities.

The owner reportedly fired several employees, starting with several at the executive level last autumn. Investigations have since been launched by the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. There are even allegations of misconduct against some of the employees who were fired.

Cases like the above illustrate how complicated situations can become. Anyone who has been terminated from a job and believes that unethical or illegal acts may have been involved might want to talk to an attorney. Discussing details with an experienced lawyer can provide ideas about how best to proceed at times like these.
