Former Navy officer held responsible for sexual harassment

Many people may be confused about what exactly constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace in Chaska, Minnesota. Some believe that sexual harassment is only committed when a person touches another without consent or makes threats that are sexual in nature. However, sexual harassment can occur when the workplace becomes a hostile environment. For example, employers who allow pornographic images or vulgar jokes and talk in the workplace may be held responsible for sexual harassment.

This is the case for a former commander in the Navy. The man recently appeared in non-judicial proceedings in which he was found guilty of conduct unbecoming of an officer and failing to obey orders or regulations. A letter of reprimand will be placed in the man’s permanent military file, likely effectively ending his military career.

The man, who worked as a Blue Angels commander, was said to have fostered a hostile work environment when he allowed comments that were inappropriate and sexual in nature. He also did nothing about pornographic images displayed in the cockpits of his team’s planes.

Although the former officer may not have committed the acts of sexual harassment himself, he was held accountable because he was responsible for maintaining a hostile-free work environment.
